Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. The most common schedule is 11 am–8:30 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (916) 687-3820. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is peonypalaceeg.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 633 reviews, which is a strong result for a chinese restaurant in Elk Grove and suggests consistent service.
Elk Grove is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Elk Grove is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I’ve always been an advocate for supporting local businesses, but unfortunately, this will not be one of them for me. I never got the chance to try the food because the experience started off on the wrong foot. There was a sign that clearly stated, “Please wait to be seated,” so I followed the instructions. However, instead of being greeted or acknowledged, I was met with looks from the staff that made it seem like I should have known to seat myself. To make matters worse, other guests who arrived after me were greeted and assisted right away. First impressions matter, and this was one of the worst welcomes I’ve experienced at a restaurant. Since this place came highly recommended, I expected a much higher level of customer service and hospitality. Based on this experience alone, I chose to leave without dining and will not be returning. I understand that restaurants can get busy, but acknowledging guests and making them feel welcome is a basic part of customer service. I hope the owner takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the guest experience for future customers.

I’ve been to Peony Palace multiple times, including the day before this visit. On my previous visit, I ordered two to-go bowls from the Mongolian BBQ section—one bowl with protein and one bowl with vegetables—and there was no issue. In fact, an employee commented that I hadn’t taken very much food. When I returned the next day and tried to do the same thing, I was told I could only use one bowl because using two bowls would “mess up the burn” on the grill. I explained that I was getting my food to go and was not planning to come back for additional servings. I even offered to pay twice if necessary because I wasn’t trying to get around the all-you-can-eat policy. Instead of working with me or offering a reasonable solution, the employee argued with me. Rather than continue the disagreement, I left both bowls and walked out without ordering. Afterward, I called to express my disappointment as a regular customer. I explained that they were likely losing a customer over the situation. The response I received was, “That’s on you.” The most frustrating part was the inconsistency. What was perfectly acceptable the day before suddenly became a problem, and there was no effort to accom

When I looked for when to have my lunch on a Saturday, I found Peony Palace. They have AYCE Mongolian BBQ. I decided to have my lunch there. I received a very nice greeting when I walked into the restaurant and was seated right away. I like the classic dining room. The Mongolian BBQ buffet table and the chef are next to the dining tables. The layout is very convenient. The meats and vegetables are very fresh, and the sauces are yummy. The chief cooked my choices of food in front of me. It was delicious. I love good Mongolian BBQ and know Peony Palace has it now. I will be back!

If you love good Chinese food, this place is it. It even has all you can eat ,Mongolian BBQ 😋 definitely will have to come try that next time. So after a long Saturday of walking at the flee market and doing yard work around the house getting ready to plant, we worked up an appetite since we haven't eaten all day. And we didn't want to cook even though my cooking was pretty awesome! we decided on Chinese food, and we've been meaning to try this place for some time now but never really got to until Saturday night. The restaurant was busy as could be for 6:30pm on Saturday night but we got seated quickly ordered the family meals for two it came with a lot of food for a good price. The food came out fast, and it was delicious. We couldn't finish it all. We were so full it came with soup, 3 different appetizers, fried rice house special chowmein, and two entries. Every single item was delicious. We had leftovers, and we took the rest of it home. I'm definitely coming back to try the Mongolian. Oh, I almost forgot the service was good it could have been great if we had got our water refilled, but it's OK.
